I am a young Black male of 23 years. While I was at my mother's last family reunion many of the elders were talking about their family's tribal affiliation. The problem is that they know that they HAVE some but as to whom they do not know. I do not have much information to go on except location and surname. The location is lower central North Carolina and upper central South Carolina especially around the Lynchburg area and near the mountains. The surname I am searching under is Nowlin. It has been misspelled by non-Blacks and non-Native Americans as "Knowlin" and there are other deriviatives such as Nolan and Nolin. I checked the list of surnames under the Five Civilized Tribes and ther derivatives show up in 4 of the 5. Is there anyone that can help me? If so *please* email me.
