I am wanting to research my Native American ancestry but I don't know where to begin. I may have tribal connections with the Cherokee Chcotaw and Seminole tribes. My ancestors have the surname Brooks and Thompson and come from the Southeastern Virginia and North Carolina regions. I was very disheartened to learn that African Americans are not likely to be received as official members of registered Tribes . Nonetheless I would like to explore this aspect of my heretige for my sake and that of my children's. Any info provided will be appreciated. Thanks.
