Re: William Shields Freedmen
In Response To: William Shields Freedmen ()
Hello Yes the Shields were indeed part of the Seminole Negro Indian Scouts as they were officially called. Some of them are buried at the Seminole Scout Cemetery in Brackettville Texas! I visited that cemetery 3 years ago and recall seeing some of their graves. There is quite a bit of information on the Shields through the pension files of the Scouts which you can obtain through the National Archives. I will have to look at some of my notes to see what else that I can find for you. I am not sure when the Shields returned from Mexico and arrived in Texas but my memory tells me that they became Scouts rather early. I shall take a look at my resources and get back to you with more info. -Angela- [17 jan 2001] Messages In This Thread
