Has anyone been able to trace their Freedmen to their former owners? I have found this info from Freedmens records and have had help from a descendent of former slave owners. However now that I have this name do I look in property records? Where do I start? Has anyone had any luck tracing slaves that were born in Indian Territory? I'm guessing but am fairly certain these Freedmen's ancestors came with the Choctaw Indians from Mississippi.
