Re: Freedmen's Association (Descendant's)
In Response To: Freedmen's Association (Descendant's) ()
I am writing in response to this message from 2 years ago. I just recently became a member of this forum. I am very interested in family history and perservation. Is there going to be a freedman's descendant association. I think this is a good idea. Alot of times the older generations don't know what it means to past down family stories to their loved ones. It is very important that we try and perserve the history of the freedman. I just recently this year learned that indians owned slaves. I also think that the African slaves of the Indians have a unique history in that our families where owned by the whites and the indians. I thank God that my family was owned by the indians in that we are able to obtain infomation about them from their census packets for enrollment of the dawes commission. I have my ggggrandmothers application packet as well as my gggrandmother and gggrandfather packet. It is a great source of info. please let me known what has come of this. I am 22 years old and I want the legacy of my ancestors to live on.
