Angela I agree with your comment about it would be interesting to know how free blacks were treated within the nations they lived. My ancestor was full blood Chickasaw and married a free African woman from Texas. He married her in Texas and then the family moved to Oklahoma around allotment time. They didn't qualify because they were sharecroppers but I'd sure like to know how it was. My gg grandfather's siblings enrolled only because their black sister-in law took them to the county seat to do it. [originally posted 26 May 1999] Messages In This Thread
