Re: Cherokee Freedmen Rider, Ratcliffe

Shawn - in a previous post, you state that "Jack Ratcliffe was father to my rider boys". How did you discover this? Was this in Elijah Rider's enrollment jacket? Also, I found this website that speaks of something called "Muster Roll of Emigrating Cherokees under the charge of Captain John Benge". It appears this group of cherokees left from Fort Payne, Alabama on 9/28/1838 and arrived in Tahlequah on 1/22/1839. At the end of this website is a list of last names of some of the emigrating cherokees who left with their slaves and the last name of one Cherokee family ,"Radcliff", is on the list. Could this be the same radcliffs who sold Elijah, Henry and their families?

I found this information at:

Thanks again.
