Sound research from Indian Territory involves researching the many thousands of records pertaining to the citizens of Indian Territory. Fortunately there are many records that remain that document the presence of Africans in the Territory. Although many current leaders elders and spokespersons wish to deny that Africans were a part of the Five Nations the following records will assist descendants of the Five Civilized Tribes in documenting their family history. Note that these records pertain to the Cherokee Choctaw Chickasaw Creek and Seminole nations of Indian Territory (now Oklahoma).
