Re: Civil War: I.T. Slaves>KS?
In Response To: Civil War: I.T. Slaves>KS? ()
Vanessa my understanding of the taking of slaves to Kansas during the Civil War was because many of the Cherokees fought on the side of the North during the war and their slaves were often taken with them and fought along with their owners against the confederacy. Conversely many of the Indian slave owners that were sympathetic to the south(especially Choctaws and Chickasaws) took their slaves to Texas in order to prevent the slaves from running away to fight on the side of the north.
