In theory you are correct the offspring of such a union can be considered to be mixed. However the term "mixed blood" as used historically in Indian Territory refers to those who are of mixed Indian and white ancestry. Those who were mixed with African ancestry were and (are still) treated differently within the nations and recognized primarily as "Freedmen". It would be interesting to see how those free blacks who lived in Indian Territory were recognized and how their descendants are recognized. [originally posted 25 May 1999] Messages In This Thread
