member of the Chickasaw Nation. From all appearances he is/would be considered "African~American" (another touchy subject). He is a member of the nation because his grandmother was the product of our mutual GGrandfather and a female member of the nation considered to be of the blood. I am not a member of the nation. To look at me you would consider me "African~American" just a little red around the edges :- ) Now my GGrandmother was the product of a slave mother and an Chickasaw father Robert Howard LOVE to be exact. I am not a member of said nation for all of the obvious reasons.
Incidently I am posting the names of over two thousand so called freedmen who filed a lawsuit asserting their "rightful" claim as "citizens by blood". I would hope others like you would begin to take up the cause of the descendants of these "freedmen" and right the wrong that was perpetuated over one hundred years ago.
Many people like to state there was little miscegenation in the Chickasaw & Choctaw nations. But ask yourself is it that easy to tell what race or of what blood anyone with so called African ancestry has in THIS COUNTRY? The more research I do on this subject tells me we are perpetuating a falsehood. In addition to continuing the myth the Chickasaws never had sex with their slaves.
Fact is they could not very admit to something the leaders deemed illegal. Did that ever stop so called inter racial sex else where in this country? Of course not people had mulatto quadroons and whatever clever name they could think up to disassociate themselves from the fact WE ALL ONE BIG TRIBE!!!! Some just darker than others or as the saying goes "white folks are just the surface of a dark and deep well"
Now I am not one to think the leaders of the Chickasaw Nation are about to open their doors to the influx of people claiming to have Chickasaw blood and appearing to be of "African Descent".
Take note the one paragraph contained in every "freedmen" application for citizenship forbade the mixing with anyone with "African" blood. The basis of which was the prevailing thought the ex slaves would in a short period of time be the majority in population and would be able to control the politics and the $$$$$.
