I first met Dr. Miles when she was a graduate student and organizer of the now famous conference at Dartmouth, in 2000. She had invited me to be a presenter at this conference and I was honored to give the opening address at that event.

This conference was the first of its kind at an institution of higher learning exploring African-Native American Relationships.
