Did your ancestors apply for the 1909 Eastern Cherokee Emigrant Payment, commonly knowns as the Miller Payment (after Guion Miller, the federal agent in charge of the enrollment)? There are rumblings among the some Cherokees by blood of the Cherokee Nation to amend our constitution to allow for the enrollment, in some form or fashion, of proven Cherokees not on the Dawes Roll, just as it was on the 1839 Constitution. Please elaborate on this if you will and if you know of other authentic Cherokee families expatriated by the Eastern Band, I'd like to know more about them. The Miller Payroll contains the applications of thousands of individuals who claimed some Cherokee ancestry, however, most of those who were rejected had no more Cherokee than my shoes. But there were some who seem to be authentic, ie their family names merge with known Cherokee families. This bit of Cherokee history is very interesting to me.
