Re: United Cherokee Nation, The Answer!!

Hi John;
I stumbled across your site while researching, and also out of anger and confusion. If you don't mind, may I ask you a question? First let me tell you that I agree with the "Gathering" and the United Cherokee Nation being the best thing ever to come about. I strongly believe that if the use of "divide and conquer" is not abolished the end of any Cherokee band will come soon.
If I understand this correctly, John Ross was the Chief of the "United Cherokee Nation" in Oklahoma. This was combining both western and eastern bands making them one single Nation. However the one thing I don't understand is when and why did the Western Band of Cherokee come about, dividing the Cherokee Nations. One would think that since one of the greatest Chiefs (John Ross) was the Chief of the "United Cherokee Nation", there would not be a division of Cherokees.
To explain to you the anger that I have in all of this, I must tell you first of my research.. My Husband came from the Welch line in North Carolina, I have traced his exact line to a Jackson Welch. Now Jackson Welch was the brother of "John Welch" (which is the Father of Chief Lloyd Welch). Our Jackson Welch, unlike his brother refused to be put on the roles, and therefore hid in the Mountains during the time of the removal. After his death around 1849, his family also refused to be on the roles. I must say though that I did find Jackson Welch on the Emigration Roles of 1817, which he later refused to leave his land, and fought against the removal. Here is where my anger comes in: We recently went to Cherokee, NC only to be treated with disrespect from the most snobbest people I have ever met. They literally threw the "Dawes Role" book at us and stated "if you can find your relative in there, then we will help you". Ok, whoa excuse me I know for a fact his relative isn't in there, he had passed away in 1849. So can someone explain to me, if a Cherokee ancestor was alive before the Dawes Roles(the only book that matters), and their decendants refused to be placed on the roles, does that mean that they are NOT Cherokee???
I'm sorry if I appear to be alittle "Pissy", but personally the time has come for the few in control to be knocked off their pedestals, and woken up.. In conclusion my belief is that the "Greed" needs to stop, it's time to wake up. The word Federally reconized, is nothing more than a "White man" term to show they still control and dictate. Why is it that those that have the "Cherokee Cards", worry so much about someone else getting a piece of the pie. Personally there is not enough money in the world to repay the Cherokee people for the injustice done to them.
Recently (due to loss of confidence in Pres. Bush) several States are petitioning to succede from the US, could this possibly be what needs to be done now with the United Cherokee Nation?
Thank you letting me vent here, if I am totally wrong in my thinking then I would love to know the truth.
