Re: Joe Hutton, Sr./Creek Freedmen
In Response To: Re: Joe Hutton, Sr./Creek Freedmen ()
Thanks for the continued prompt responses. I am trying to verify information with my grandmother as information comes. She is 78. The information sent on the Burkhalters is in line with what she says. Jiles Luther Burkhalter Sr married Delia Burkhalter
Delia was born in Coriscana,TX (Navarro Co). Luther Burkhalter married Iola Huggins (now Iola Burkhalter)
The Burkhalters came from TX via VA. Little Fact: Jiles Sr's mother was a slave and his father was a white man. Jiles was very close to his white half brother, John Steeds and his wife, Eva Steeds. The Steeds owned a owned a feed store in TX. John taught Jiles how to read and everything he knew from school. John was almost beat to death way because he was so close and was teaching Jiles to read and write. Luvenna Hutton, the mother of Iola, (came from KS to OK) with a child named Iola Huggins from another marriage and married _?_ Hutton and had two children named Frankie Hutton and Zenoba My grandmother doesnt remember when her siblings were born just the order. Little fact: On my maternal grandmother's side, her family owned close to 300 acres which some was later sold to the Army Corps of Engineers to build the Lake Eufaula. They acquired the land through the Land Run and buying more when they came. We still have remaining land near the Lake. Calvin Hill Sr married Ruby Burkhalter (now Tolliver after a second marriage)
Calvin Jr, had two children: Tambra and Rassoull (half-siblings) (OKC) Rassoull has one daughter: An'Nisa (OKC) Also I am trying to find about Calvin Hill, Sr., her late husband's background (died in a car accident) who lived in the McIntosh Co area. His son is my father, Calvin Hill (age 51, born in OKC). My great grandfather was Walter Hill, Jr., (died in a car accident was a twin brother of Willie Hill. Walter was born in Vernon, OK. He had one son Calvin Hill Sr. lived in TX, and had 19 siblings. Walter's father, who had 19 kids was born in Rosewood, TX. I know there are a lot of Hills in the McIntosh area. I will send more as it comes. If you can fill in the holes on any of this, I would be so grateful. I tried searching the McIntosh GenWeb and Navarro GenWeb but information isnt coming up readily on the names mentioned. What am I not doing right on this search? Tambra
