Re: Say What? Stidham Roll of Creek Self Emigrants
In Response To: Re: Say What? Stidham Roll of Creek Self Emigrants ()
Hello everyone, I came across this thread as I was researching a document that a cousin sent to my attention. We are researching the surnames Elliott, Randle, Gandy, Gant, Foy and Hollingsworth/Hollinshead. I don't know the origin of this document or the title, however I can share with you the information it contains - it definitely appears official. My cousin is also researching her maternal ancestors, through which she is related to Cow Tom. My cousin notes that the document regards the parents of John Jefferson. The document includes the following: Column A Heading: Name of Father RESPONSE: Jefferson Randle Column B Heading: Father's Tribal Enrollment Column B Sub-heading 1: Year RESPONSE: Dead Column B Sub-heading 2: Town RESPONSE: Died during the war Column B Sub-heading 3: No. RESPONSE: (No response provided) Column C Heading: Father's Owner RESPONSE: Sallie Randle Column D Heading: Mother's Name: REPONSE: Betsy Randle Column E Heading: Mother's Tribal Enrollment Column E Sub-heading 1: Year RESPONSE: dead Column E Sub-heading 2: Town REPONSE: Tuskegee Rolls Column E Sub-heading 3: No. RESPONSE: (No response provided) Column F Heading: Mother's Owner RESPONSE: FREE Unfortunately I don't have a date on the document. I will contact my cousin and ask her some specific questions regarding the doc., it's origin and its content, and follow-up with a subsequent response to this site. Please be mindful that my cousin is 83 years old, although she has a fairly good memory. You should also know that the entries that immediately follow the aforementioned (on the same document) include Cow Tom and Jake Simmons. They are listed with the following Tribal Enrollments, Canadian and Arkansas, respectively. My cousin's handwritten notes indicate that Jefferson Randle and Betsy Randle were the parents of John Jefferson. Also, John Jefferson married Melinda Cow Tom (my cousin's maternal great grandaunt). Personally, I am researching Indian heritage on my paternal grandfather's line. My grX2 grandmother (Julia Ann Randle Elliott)and her mother, my grX3 grandmother (Mary Ann Randle Goodwin), were apparently of Indian heritage. I understand that they came into S.C. from Paris, dropped down to GA and then went back up to S.C. Their slaveowners were Col. A. H. Gladden and upon his death they were sold to Major Thomas Watt both of Fairfield and later Richland Cos. of S.C. My grX2 grandmother's nephew was Dr. John M. Gandy, President of Virginia State University for over twenty years. We are trying to find out if Jefferson and Betsy Randle are somehow connected to the family. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
