In Response To: Alexander D. Brown, Creek Freedman 2570 ()
An addendum: Alexander's date of birth in the original post may be incorrect. A source that seems more reliable says Nov. 26, 1885.
A 1910 Oklahoma County, OK marriage license has Alexander D. Brown, 25, marrying Girtie Browning, 23. A 1918 WWI draft registration card in Chicago lists Alexander D. Brown, 33, married to Gertrude Brown. This Alexander is black, a butcher for Armour & Co, medium build and height, blue eyes. His home address is in the middle of the black area subjected to the 1919 Chicago riot. A death index listing indicates that Alexander died six weeks after the riot, leading me to wonder if he died of injuries sustained in the riot. I am trying to track down the story.
