Thanks for your response. But, I would think that the first search would be on the Dawes rolls. If you don't have an ancestor on the Dawes rolls, what is the point to continue any more research. I am speaking of course of ancestors that were supposedly been enslaved by the Five Civilized Tribes.

Maybe I have missed the point of wanting to know the background of a slave owner, but I would think most researchers are not concerned. Usually freedmen descendants want to find their family members (ancestors).

Documents found (such as you mentioned) are about freedmen and their family members. Also, the history before enslavement of the freedmen into the Five Civilized Tribes is very limited.

Sorry, but I have missed the point! No disrespect.
