Re: A Couple of Questions...
In Response To: Re: A Couple of Questions... ()

I would like to continue trying to find documents that support William Colbert's claim that he was the brother-in-law to Green Johnson, but I cannot. You know that sometimes some freedmen lied for whatever reason and eventually were denied citizenship. There always has be documentation to support any claim.

Jane Johnson was transferred from the Chickasaw rolls to the Choctaw rolls after the death of her husband (Green Johnson).

There is no census card for William Colbert establishing citizenship in the Chickasaw or the Choctaw nation. Although there may be several census cards for a William Colbert, the one of concern would be the one rejected (denied) citizenship.

This Colbert William I believe was not married to Henrietta, Choctaw freedmen, cc#600, but to a Blanche Colbert and she remarried and became Blanche Henderson.
