Re: New Creek Freedman Lawsuit Filed

I would also think that this is the time for Creek freedmen descendants to get the proper documents supporting their connection to their direct Creek ancestor, making sure your ancestor is listed on the Dawes Rolls. Know what documents are required for citizenship in the Creek nation.

Just big talk with no proof will cause a lot of descendants to be disappointed when time to enroll.

Agreed here, but this actually should go for anyone who is a descendent of any Freedman of the FCT, as when it comes time for those tribes to see the light and do the right thing, they should already have those documents locked and loaded and ready to go.

If a ruling were handed down tomorrow, one should have that application filled out, bloodlines traces back to that descendant on the Dawes Rolls, their roll number, and birth and possibly death certificates going back to that person. That way when they ask for it and assume that you don't have any of it, you can just hand them the paperwork and wait for them to get back to you.

We've had the time - decades, in fact - to have this research done, and more research done more than they could imagine, because they neglected this portion of their history. This is where their naivety and ignorance is exposed, and turns into a huge learning lesson for the respective tribes.
