Re: Ketch Barnett and Harry Island

Historically only a $100,000 dollars was paid to the tribe before statehood as it pertain to the Loyal Creek payment before statehood...one o the reasons why GW Stidham created the list and the history behind the claim...the Creek sued in the court of claims multiple times before and after statehood to genthe US to pay what was owed to its citizens..ironically it was a confederate Creek, Stidham who fought for the loyal Creek payments...the US claim was that it paid in full when the tribe accepted the 100 thousand dollar and nothing else was owed..the US also tried to argue that the money was also for the 30 cent an acre for the western 2/3 of the tribe that help create Oklahoma territory...anyways folks it wasn't until the federal termination era of the 1950s that congress agreed to pay out was owed including interest. Unfortunately it was also the reason that the Creek chief disenfranchised and unenrolled thousands of Creek freedmen in the 1970s knowing that the Creeks leadership had been paid the balance in the 70s and refused to pay out the money to the descendants of Loyal Creeks, nearly half being Creek freedmen...
