What Does Rights Mean in the FCT?
In my opinion pertaining to the 1866 Treaty, rights, all rights, would include citizenship for the freedmen. What other rights were the nation talking about? A person without citizenship would have no rights to mention.
The Cherokee nation has amended the treaty to eliminate the freedmen from the nation by adding a blood quantum and saying that the treaty did not include citizenship. Some people will do and say anything to have their own way.
