Thanks, Preston. Coming from you that's quite a compliment. I'm not done with Tom RAGSDALE yet. I'm focused on identifying the woman who was the mother of his daughter Frances, my g-g grandmother. A staffer at the National Archives in DC once told me I'd never find Tom's wife. Well, after a couple years, I've found two wives for sure and possibly a third or maybe only a "baby's mother." But the mother of his daughter remains a mystery. Frances RAGSDALE died a few years before the Dawes Commission was doing its thing. She is on the 1880 Cherokee Census as a single working woman age 20. I have her 1870s court affidavit I mentioned. I can't think of another kind of record where she might have identified her mother, but still taking a stab here and there. Messages In This Thread
