I was told that the Grooms originated back in VA, but I'm not sure about that. They are among old names back in Charles City, VA (Chickahominy country). The Grooms in my family are from Eastover, SC (backcountry of Columbia) and their root starts with Thomas Grooms (b1840s). All the Grooms in my family are Indian folks, Cheraw blood but I don't know if they were amongst the Lumbee (chatch-all tribes). There are white Grooms though who lived in Sumter, SC.
