Does Blood Really Matter?

Yes! Blood does matter to the Creek nation.

Blood quantum was used to determine restrictions of alloted land and Black families with blood quantums were removed (transferred) from the by blood roll to the freedmen roll (mother not of Indian blood).

The following are Creek freedmen families I have researched that were transferred:

Childers, Rose, cc#876
Childers, Gertrude cc#1265
Davis, Ollie cc#358
Gray, Jane cc#1019
Johnson, Sarah cc#106
Lewis, Sudie cc#947
Pond, Maria cc#964
Starr, John cc#296
Tiger, Annie cc#1065
Tiger, Dick cc#583
Tiger, Joe II cc#1373
Walton, Sarah cc#738
Williams, Mary cc#1294

In spite of the 1866 Treaty, blood is the issue that determines citizenship today and those families that were denied their blood quantum during the Dawes Commission period are affected.
