Wow. I ran up on some Vances last week and I cant remember what there firstnames where. They were near some of my other family the Nance and Clinkscales. The only Vance I know is my ggggrandmother Laura(1859) who was born in Belton, SC and died a Palmer in Buncombe Co. Asheville, SC. My family says she was Cherokee but I can find no evidence of this as of yet.
How did you find out that Lucy Vance's mother was from Africa? Thats really neat. I dream of tracing at least one of my ancesters back to the mother land.
