VANCE
I saw Vance, my ggrandma's surname. Lucy/Lucinda Vance out of Edgefield Co. Born 1852 into slavery, died free in St Louis Mo. I have been chasing this surname and descendants from SC, Monroe Ms, Fulton Ga, Asheville NC and Columbia SC. So far only 1 person has ever responded that I feel is related, but identity theft and the economy, I feel keeps folks from trusting. They ceased because they were told about a connection to a ZEBULON VANCE. I know nothing about this persons connection nor has he come up on my radar. I ALWAYS send some type of evidence that I feel only a relative would know. So Here I am still searching. I am not looking for financial compensation, nor do I have anything to give. My midwest family knew nothing about a connection to anyone in South Carolina, until I confirmed information on the 1920 SC census. I had it all alone for ten years but never knew Lucy Vance was THE person I was looking at. I have accumalted so much evidence and only want to know cousins. You may be one. I know of a Vance group that still lives in West Point Ms, but they did not seem to want to learn about their past. Adelaide Teague Vance was the mother of Lucy. Adelaide was a African woman from Sierre Leone, W. Africa the Temne/Mende people.
