Not Creek related, but along the lines of what Norma & Eli are suggesting for following the ownership of land by your family.

Here are examples of what one can do in that regard. All records were located at the County courthouse in Urbana, Champaign County, Ohio.

1829 Deed of Conveyance for Purchase of Property (Legal Description of Land).
