Re: The ROBERTS Family - CHOCTAW/CHICKASAW FREEDME
In Response To: Re: The ROBERTS Family - CHOCTAW/CHICKASAW FREEDME ()
Thanks for your advice to Alaina to perform her research. There are several Roberts families, so I can understand her confusion. You mentioned "For the record there is a great possibility that if Sarah was Native American none of the Roberts clan would be on the freedmen rolls, but don't exclude it." The Sarah Alaina is refering to is Sarah Stevenson, her husband Ned Roberts. the parents of Jack Roberts were Sarah Stevenson and Ned Roberts. Based on the photo submitted for Lyman Roberts, whose parents were Jack Roberts and Alice (James) Roberts, it is very obvious that Lyman was a mixed blood. There are mixed blood freedmen listed on the freedmen rolls, such as Lyman mentioned on Chickasaw Freedmen, census card #560. Willie Roberts is also on this same card. If I have made an error in the names of parents, let me know. At the moment I don't have actual documents before me as I am typing. Thanks
