Re: Solomon Abram/Chickasaw Freedmen
In Response To: Re: Solomon Abram/Chickasaw Freedmen ()
In regards to last names, the freedmen would take the name of their slave owner, but apparently not always the case for whatever reason. In marriage of course, the husband's LAST name is used. For your own research check out Chickasaw freedmen cc#557, cc#558 and cc#560.
I noticed that Ned Roberts, who married Sarah Stevenson, her mother being Laney Colbert, Choctaw freedmen (Colbert, slave name) had two children that married into the Lucinda (Gaines) Abram bloodline, Jack and Laura. Lucinda's children were Alice and Robert Colbert. Edmond married Sarah Abram.
Also I have come to the conclusion that Solomon Abram (cc#7) and Sarah Abram (cc#557) have to be half siblings because there is no other Charley Abram to mention old enough to father them, if not, oh well, reasoning because I noticed that Gaines and Abram families intermarried with each other.
I hope this helps!!
