Re: Obama's Cherokee Heritage

cherokee by law: Example: There is a place called america, there is a place called spain. If you have a relative that is a citizen of spain, and you are a american citizen, your spanish relative have to meet the criteria of american law which will enable them to become a citizen of america, which has nothing to do with the blood relationship of you and your spanish cousin, even if you share the same grandfathers and your grandfather is a citizen of america, your cousin still have to abide by american law, in order to become a citizen and be called an american. The spanish cousin cannot be called an american, until he or she becomes an american citizen. Thus, in order to become a cherokee, one must abide by cherokee law, One of the criteria, is that your grandparents have to be on the dawes database and you have to prove thats your relative, wether they had cherokee blood or not, i.e. the freedmen, which are descendants of africa, and some whose grandparents are on the dawes database, if he or she can prove thats their ancestor, then they can apply for citzenship, thus making them cherokee by law, not by blood. Thus, one becomes cherokee by law, like one becomes an american by law. one does not become a cherokee because your hair is straight, or because you have high cheekbones, or because you may look like an indian you saw in a picture, or you got so called "good hair" that do not make you a cherokee. You only can become a cherokee by law, not by blood. now, don't get mad at me, i didn't make up these rules, and i am not a freedmen, so you have to ask the freedmen about their plight.
