Thank you, Estelusti. As you surmised, much of the information you have provided is beyond my understanding.
However, I believe I understand the gist of the court's decision: while the sovereingty of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma [CNO] prevents interference by the court, that prohibition does not extend to illegal acts carried out by the leaders of that Nation. Sort of like when we are allowed to impeach a president based on alledged illegal behavior.
Thus, Principal Chief Chad Smith and other leaders of the CNO are not immune from prosecution for the violation of a person's rights [in this case, the violation of the 1866 Treaty by disavowing the members of its Freedmem citizens the basic rights of citizenship] by their self-serving explanations of the 1866 Treaty.
