The Willie Kennard that I mentioned served in an Illinois "Colored" regiment during the Civil War, served as a Buffalo Soldier in Texas after the Civil War, I believe at Fort Bliss and Fort Davis, and then becoming marshal of Yankee Hill, Colorado. Finally he served as a "hired gun" bodyguard for Colorado Black entrepreneur Barney Ford.
If this person shows up in your family genealogy, I’m sure many Western historians would be very interested to learn of it.
