Re: United Cherokee Nation, The Answer!!

Ascribing motivs to the actions of others is not always correct. To assume the treatment you recieved was due to "greed" may not be the case at all. I have worked for a city at a "front counter" & had to answere questions & been requested to "look up" information that might be as easy as looking in the phone book. Things that properly the person asking should/could do for them selves. You get pretty tired of people asking you to do things for them that they were too lazy to do for them selves. Looking for an ancestor that "Granny told me was Cherokee". Must get pretty old to those people at both the East & West offices. When the information is available through the National Archives as well as several published books or payed profesional geniollogists. As in a court of law the burrden of proof is on you. As to the question of using other than the established criterria that all other enrolled members of a tribe/band or nation maybe frusterating. But it has been estabilished by law since the "final rolls" were established. I'm sorry but if your ancestors chose to do other than remain as citizens of the Cherokee Nation by staying in the East. Then I'm affraid you have no choice but to abide by their choice. Just as Davids grandparents chose to relinquish their Itallian citizenship. Or your ancestors may have sold their "family farm" years ago. You can not go back & reclaim the land. Just as we who's families were marched West & the family farms were taken from them. Can not go back to Tenn./ Georgia etc & reclaim our GGGGGgrandparents land even though the removal was illegal at the time. As with any thing else there is "acceptable" doccumentation for what ever you wish to prove. There may or may not be other information that maybe irrelavant. The "final rolls" have been estabilshed by all of the 5 Tribes (& their bands) to be THE ONLY acceptable proofs as far as I know. That crtteria was established long befoe the advent of Indian Cassinos. So I think to attribute "greed" as being the over riding causation is way off base. Except that the fact of greed of others trying to take Indian lands & other property is nothing new. If not for lack of doccumentaion thousands of "Non-Cherokee" would have claimed thousands & thousands of acres of our lands.
