thanks everyone so much now I have some work to do ...at least I have some where to start!! How far back does this search go and how can I tell if they walked the Trail of Tears?I finally fell like I belong somewhere, that I have some sense of kinship. NOw I must put the pieces together. I don't really know where to begin -maybe someone who has began this process can enlighten me on the process? and tell me just what it means to a freedman!!!I want to envelope myself in more of our history and put the word out there for those who don't know what's going on... but first I want to educate myself to the fullest and have the knowledge that has been with me all along brought out for all to see.. I wonder how the by blood cherokee nation and it's supporters would feel about the federal government giving the freedman it's own land meaning half of the present day cherokee land and freezing funds to be divided with the freedman including any intersts that should have been paid, declaring the freedman a federally recognized tribe...or simply do what's right and let the freedman become full citizens with all powers and benefits, tribal council postions ...I don't think they want to be seperate and lose what took so long to build. I just want to be able to enjoy what my ancestors of indian and african descent worked so hard to co build with our brothers on the cherokee tribal lands equally. TO work hard to preserve our history along with the cherokee history-our untold history. thanks for hearing me vent-it get's so frustrating just to continue listning to people who needed our help turn arounfd and stab us in the back- we worked hard being mid wifes and nurses and soldiers porters, engineers, doctors, scientist, gardeners etc...just for someone to say, "Hey You Don't Matter At All!!! Simply because our skin is dark and many people who have gained vast resources on the backs of others couldn't stand to be humbled or made accountable for their actions...
