There was a very long string attached to the education and salvation of the heathen. Land base. We are led to believe that the benefactors consulted with the Nipmuc, so.west Wampanoag, Mohegan, Stockbridge-Munsee (et al) communities about the removal of their sons (and daughters on p.15 in the historical doc letter) to become indentured scholars.
It's curious that after Mr. Sergeant's death no indigenous scholar was found capable to fulfill a position as tutor, teacher, preacher.
