Re: Freedmen Roll DOES indicate "Indian blood"

As I read those articles concerning the Cherokee Freedmen I had very mixed feelings of anger, disapointment, etc. It is so rediculous that blacks have to still fight these racial battles but at the same time I am glad that they are being fought and with such skill! I also thought, they have messed up now, don't go messing with our voting rights. I am a southern African American from south carolina, and we black Indians are basically babes on milk compared to the Cherokee Freedmen descendants etc. I claim Indian heritage in a black/ white southern culture where Indian are just now starting to not be ashame to be Indian. Many blacks in the South are not interesting in pursuing Indianness, they are just black.
Even the small Indian groups here have to learn to be culturally Indian after so much fear and oppression. I support your efforts and would like to join in the fight for justice and against racism. I do not think many american outside of Indian territory are very familiar with this form of racism against humanity. It would be great if it was made known to the Oprah shows, Montel Williams, NAACP, The News, etc so that this issue would become a common discussion in much of America. As you know the media is a very powerful tool. This is definitly an extension of the civil rights movement because many of our leaders were Black Indians but went as black during the "I'm black & I'm proud Movement". Some racist Indians have really disapointed me, especially those with the very name that depicts a combination of different groups, the Seminole. That's just crazy! Keep fighting for righteousness and I believe the Creator will fight for you and on your behalf.
A fellow Black Indian
