Re: Ancestors were "held" not "owned"

R Downing,

You state:

: Slave owner is an historically acurate description of the practice,
: slave holder is a misrepresentation of the facts, a revisionist
: version of history of the era, and historically inaccurate.

I see your point; to play the 'Game' of slavery one must practice to be proficient as a 'slave owner'. Followers and Practicioners of that 'Game' have a right to the historical accuracy of their terminology.

'Slave Holder' is terminology, in the 21st century, for an entirely different 'Game'. As such, it's neither misrepresentation nor revisionist in the classic sense that you pose. Since it's a different 'Game', it also isn't inaccurate.

Tom Blake's work come out of an effort to find the whereabouts of a people, namely the African Ancestored in North America during the 18th and 19th century. Some were free to move about, while others were 'held captive' against their will. That's one point of view taken in this different 'Game'.

Since records were kept by the 'holders', they become an important avenue for research. If other/more records existed for the African Ancestored in North America, Mr. Blake's work may be deemed unnecessary. However, it is of tremendous value.

We are not playing your 'Game'.

We are finding and honoring our Ancestors.

Peace
"Guided by the Ancestors"
