Re: Slave research Forum -no owners
In Response To: Re: Slave research Forum -no owners ()
Dear Sister Loretta! Your timely, astute and well written response to this curious proposal to repeal terminology chosen by the Euro-Ancestored writers of all original documents which in themselves describe such persons as Slaveowners...was as they say "deadly accurate". The proposal in my opinion is akin to changing history...it's revisionist and lends itself to all manners of responses (legal and otherwise) which makes the chaos theory seem like child's play! I am sure that most African Americans can't help but feel atleast a twinge of pain in their heart when confronted with the undeniable, unerasable, actual fact that our ancestors were indeed OWNED by other people... they were Bought, Sold, Traded, Rented, Loaned to Others, Contracted Out, Bred, Prodded, Poked, Branded and had their children removed from them physically, forcefully and painfully. To callously imply that these unfortunate ancestors of hours were simply in the hands of a "holder" is to imply that they kept them in pens and let them out whenever the Mood struck them. If that were true there never would have been a need for the likes of Nat Turner, Harriet Tubman and many others unnamed, faceless fighters for freedom! In my opinion, this proposal serves no other purpose than to assuage the guilt of a person whose family lines sharply converge with those of a "SlaveOwner". (I am not attempting to describe the originator of the post, only to convey that would be the only person helped by this terminology). No one could have said it better than you, Loretta My Sister! Sincerely,
