Thanks, you stated so very well my thoughts on the "held" vs "owned" discussion.

The point that you brought home so clearly is America's "peculiar instituion" was like no other known form of Slavery to that time. I think when discussing this subject we should also distinguish between "Slavery" & "Chattel Slavery".
