Hi.
My cousin has just informed that Simon Barnhill wrote the name of his mother and father (Willis Whitehurst and Mariah Barnhill) on his marriage certificate in 1870.
Also the ancestors of Willis Jenkins/Whitehurst were supposed to be of Native American Indian descent. My cousin, Claude White "hurst" told me that Willis Whitehurst ancestors had very long hair. When they would sit down they were actually sitting on their hair. Willis Whitehurst was a dark-skinned man. Tuscaroan Indians were supposedly the dominate Indian tribe in Pitt County, NC during that time period. I have tried the Dawes Roll but I am unable to find anything.
