Violet was born February 1842, in Paw Creek, Mecklenburg County, NC. She lived on the border of Cabarrus County and may be listed there.

Her son Edward William Lawing(s)aka Edward Cannon was born on the border of Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Counties in Paw Creek, North Carolina in August 20, 1865. In the 1870's, Violet and her children were in Township 12, Cabarrus County. Her other children were Jim Robinson Jr., Garfield "Pete" Robinson, William "Black Cat" Archibald Robinson, Nancy Cannon and Josephine Cannon.
