Re: Indentured Servants PERCIVAL
In Response To: Indentured Servants ()

[i[Hello:

I need help. I'm trying to locate my gggrandfather who came to America from Ireland as an indentured servant. I was told that he came into Charleston. I don't have his name or what part of Ireland he lived. However, I know the name of one of his children, James Percival(pursavill, perceville) Where should I begin in trying to locate information on him?

Secondly, because he was from Ireland, would I have to check slave schedules to try to locate him or would he be listed on the census reports? I know that he kept his name and did not take his owner's last name.

Thank you in advance for assistance.

Your search sounds interesting BUT needs more info on your beginniong work in order for us to find clues and follow the trail from your parents to an elusive grandfather with no name.

What results when you google Percival?

What makes you think Grandfather would be on a slave achedule?

Have you studied the history of indentures in Maryland other States and South America?

Have you researched ship manifests for PERCIVAL for suspect ports?

Begin with yourself and work from there one generation at a time until you reach your gggrandfather.

You will probably find more effective assistance at a site focusing indentured Irish servants.

Regrets and Best wishes.
