To the Worshipful Court of Chowan
The petition of WM. RIGHTON of the said County & State of North Carolina, most respectfully Sheweth that he is the owner of two Negro Slaves viz. HARRY Commonly called HARRY TREDWELL and his wife JENNY, both of which for meritorious Services rendered & their uniform good moral, and upright Conduct, he is desirous of liberating and Setting free. May it therefore please your Worships to grant this petition, and your petitioner as in duty bound will ever pray &C.

These are to Certify that we whose names are below are well acquainted with the Character of the within named negroes, HARRY & JINNY and know them to be quiet peaceable orderly, well disposed people and have uniformly conducted themselves in an upright manner.

Know all men by these presents that we WILLIAM RIGHTON and SAMUEL TREDWELL are held and firmly bound unto THOMAS BROWNRIGG Esqr. Chairman of the County Court of Chowan and his succcessors in office, for the use of the poor of the said County in the Sum of Two hundred pounds which payment well and truly to be made to the said THOMAS BROWNRIGG or his Successors in office we bind ourselves our heirs, Executors and administrators firmly by these present, Witness our hands and Seals this 14th Day of December 1814.
The Condition of the above obligation is Such that whereas upon the petition of WILLIAM RIGHTON exhibited to the County Court of Chowan at December Term 1814 The said Court proceeded to liberate HARRY and JINNY being liberated as aforesaid, Then this obligation to be null and Void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
