Hi Gail,
I'm afraid that neither the BLANCHARD nor SCALE families are listed in the book. One thing I must caution folks on however, is that not every slave was given a surname in these records when he was emancipated, nor did they necessarily take their slaveowners last name as their own. That's why it's best if a slaveowner is known where their name might give an indication of who the slave may have belonged to. Since there is only one page of entries for Rockingham County, NC, I will post that info hoping it will help someone:

Know all men by these presents that i, John Robertson, Executor of the last will & Testament of JARRAT BOWLING decd. late of the county of Rockingham & state of North Carolina, in obedience to the directions of the Testator in the said Will Contained, and with the permission of the Superior Court of Law for Rockingham County at the Fall Term thereof in the year 1852, have manumitted and set free from Slavery, and do hereby manumit and set free from Slavery a certain negro slave named Joseph, aged about thirty years, of yellow complexion, thick Curly hair, and near six feet in height, the said boy being a good boot and Shoe maker and a good Coarse harness maker
And I do hereby give grant & release unto the said JOSEPH, all my right, title and claim of, in, and to the person, labor and services of the said Joseph as well as to all the estate and property which he may hereafter acquire or obtain.
In witness whereof I JOHN ROBERTSON Exr. of the Last Will & Testament of JARRAT BOWLING decd. have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal This the 10th Day of January AD 1853.
