Re: 1860 Gillins Slave owners
In Response To: 1860 Gillins Slave owners ()

: Does the name Gillins, Gillens, Gillons..etc show up ANYWHERE in
: the state of SC in 1860?

Hello. The name as shown above does not appear in either the 1850 or the 1860 Slave Schedules for SC. However, I did find these names:

1850: GILLAND, James R. -- Fairfield Dist.

GILLELAND, Robert -- Laurens Dist.

GILLELAND, W. D. -- Charleston Dist.

GILLILAND, Martha -- Laurens Dist.

GILLILAND, William D. -- Union Dist.

1860: GILLANE, James -- Abbeville Dist.

GILLAND, J. R. -- Williamsburg Dist.

GILLILAND, Robert -- Laurens Dist.

GILLILAND, Robert J. -- Pickens Dist.

Knowing how some of my relatives in SC pronounce names, it might me worth it to consider these or even "Gilliam"

Good luck!
