Think I found Slave owner Franklin county, VA

Hey Everyone,

I think I found the slave owner of one of my g grandparents.

In the 1860 slave census
owner James Robertson

75 F B
41 F B
36 M B
18 F B
11 F B
10 M B
8 M B
5 M B (have birth record with slave mother)
3 F B

1870 census

Margaret F B 82
Sarah F B 52
Andrew M B 48
No Info
Mariam F B 24
Thomas M B 21
Joseph M B 18 (my g grandfather)
Pank M B 15
Margaret F B 13

After slavery my g grandfather took the surname Robinson- it appears a few of the others took the name Robertson.

My mom told me that the name changed after slavery. I found a marriage record for one of the brothers for the parents as being Surra Cunningham and Sarah Robertson. With my ggrandfather he gave his father as being Swinney and Sarah Robertson. Now my question is do you think Surra and Swinney are the same people? In the marriage and census record they had Johnson as being surnamed Joseph.

James Robertson (slave owner) died after 1880, I have been unable to find any will for him. Can anyone suggest where else I can look for the slaves he owned.

Thanks

Peace

Mona
