Re: Linking slave descendants and slaver descendan
In Response To: Linking slave descendants and slaver descendants ()
Greetings, This sounds like very interesting research. I am reasearching the following ancestors whom I beleive were all slaves (except those born after 1865)... MONIX (MAH niks): This is my toughest line. The earliest Monix ancestor I have traced is George Monix, born in Union Town AL (1868). I heard that this name has Dutch origins, and I have seen several black MANN's in and around Dutch Fork (Lexington Co.) South Carolina. My Monix family seems like the only black Monix's in the USA :) EVANS: If I am not mistaken this is German in origin. I have traced my Evans back to 1847. Flem EVANS was born in MS in 1847. In 1880 he resided in Benton Co., MS. Several of his Evans neighbors in 1880 are from VA. ROGAN/ RAGAN (RAH gin): My ancestor Van ROGAN was born in AL, 1838 and resided in Tippah Co., MS in 1870. I think I have id'ed the last slave holder, James Rogan (who resided in AL then moved to Tippah Co. ca. 1850) Contact me via e-mail for details. Thanks
