Galloway in VA (now WV) and MO

My ancestor, James Galloway, Sr., is listed in the 1800 and 1810 U.S. Census for Hampshire Co., Virginia as having one slave in his household. He is also listed in the 1830 census for Troy, Lincoln Co., Missouri as having one slave. I recall reading somewhere that there was an older black gentleman living with the household in Missouri. James Sr. died in Troy, MO in 1834 and there is no mention of the slave in his will or probate records. I have visited the courthouse and found no other documents to indicate that he sold or gave this person away. Since this person spent so much time with my ancestors I am just curious to know who he was. I would be glad to share any information I have on my family if it would be of interest to any descendants of the person mentioned above.

Sincerly,

Bob Brown
