Re: Slave owners Tazwells/Taswells/Tazewells
In Response To: Slave owners Tazwells/Taswells/Tazewells ()
Now I wonder HARD if his family was Affrican American. From the ONE picture my mother has tucked away, and from what my grandmother has said he was white....DARK but white. We always thought that they were white and never would have thought that they could have possibly been slave owners. Infact i am almost positive that particular family of Tazwell's were not slaves or slave owners. They were dirt poor and cotton pickers from what I have been told. Maybe share croppers, I don't know!
I called my mother on the phone and let me tell she you she almost broke out in tears because she has been looking up the name Tazwell for so many years...WITH NO RESULTS! She wants to speak with you and compare notes linked to this name as well. She has no real info herself prior to 1865. My mother had told me that there were SEVERAL Tazewell's buried in a place called Little Flock Cemetary, in Little Flock TX. Unfortunaltely neither of us remeber what county that's in... She has been there before and could tell you how to get back to it. Sheesh, I don't even know where to start. The names that you had given to me didnt seem familliar to my mother. Bottom line is, she really wants to speak with you and made no bones about me giving you her phone number. Her name is Linda McClung and you can reach her at: 281-292-3949. She does not have a computer so she cant e-mail. She has dug out all the information she had and looking it all over again. Has some of her grandfather's possesions including a bible with names and birthdates in it. Most are from his side (Tazwell), including his mother's/Father's side. Keep inouch with me, I am just as excited as you are about this! We have NEVER been able to link the Tazwell's!
